ANDY CALDWELL

Los Angeles-based Andy Caldwell wears many guises: Songwriter, producer, classically trained pianist and trumpeter, remixer, DJ and label owner (of the recently re-launched Uno Recordings). The journey of his 14-year and counting recording career has brought many accolades and honors, from writing Grammy nominated songs and sharing stages with legends like James Brown to making the tunes of choice for countless top DJs worldwide. Flying more than 200,000 miles and playing more than 100 shows a year, Andy Caldwell is a preeminent fixture on the global dance music scene.

The last few years have been both productive and immeasurably fun for Caldwell: he headlined the 25-city House of Om tour, recorded the exotic Om Dubai mix collection as well as a double-disc of jamming electro for Bargrooves. He led a float at the Berlin Love Parade, played Ibizan superclub Pacha, rocked 70,000 at the Los Angeles Coliseum for Electric Daisy Carnival and opened for James Brown at the massive Good Vibrations festival tour in Australia.
He debuted on record in 1994 with the huge buzz of the single “Superfunkidiculous,” and shortly after formed the live group Soulstice with Gabriel Rene. The pair worked together for five years, signing to major label Dreamworks and releasing the soulful electronic albums Illusions and Mixed Illusions on Om Records. Working with Soulstice allowed Caldwell to hone his skills in writing, arranging and producing in preparation for working solo.

Recording singles for Om Records and Naked Music, the former San Francisco native quickly became a staple on the acclaimed Om Lounge, Sounds of Om and Mushroom Jazz mix series, tiding listeners over until his first full-length solo album Universal Truth emerged in 2006. Among the many gems featured on the studio album, Warrior gently emerged as the torch song for the summer of 2007. The track written by Caldwell, features the incredible vocal talents of Lisa Shaw and has been remixed by Claude Von Stroke, David Alvarado and Chuck Love. Quickly rising to the top of many compilation inclusions, it has been featured on releases by Hed Kandi, Vendetta and Ministry of Sound to name but a few.

His knack for A&R leads him to find and sign tunes that have gone on to be licensed the world over, as in the Trentemoller remix of Yoshimoto's Du What Yu Du. And with the recent re-launch of his label Uno Recordings, Caldwell once again has an official outlet all his own to nurture and discover tomorrow's talents that are pushing stylistic boundaries.

It's all pretty exciting for someone whose biggest goal when I first started was to hear my music played on huge speakers in front of a lot of people, says Caldwell, who is currently at work on his next high-profile album. That was all I wanted. I didn't care if I ever made a dime, I just wanted that experience.

WIPPENBERG

Genre-warping electronic music adventurer Wippenberg (a.k.a. Olaf Dieckmann) has been supplying the world’s dancefloors with audio titans for close to 15 years. Most recently renowned for his productions including the neo-classic ‘Chakalaka’, ‘Drumster’, and his ‘Wippenberg presents Sphaera’ releases ‘Front’ & ‘Back’, his music hazes the multiple boundaries of house, electro, trance and techno. This unique composite electronic blend is now spun by the widest imaginable cross-section of DJs… He’s championed as much by Eric Prydz, Angelo & Ingrosso, Tocadisco and Pete Tong in 2009, as he is by Tiësto and Armin Van Buuren. This casts Wippenberg as one of, if not, the most diverse DJ/producer in today’s EDM universe. In 2004 Olaf released the two ‘Elemental EPs’, which included the tracks ‘Fire’, ‘Water’, ‘Earth’ and ‘Air’. They drew strong support from the highest echelons of the DJ hierarchy and pushed the Wippenberg name firmly into the headlines. The EPs release prompted close associates Cosmic Gate to collaborate with Dieckmann on their ‘Earth Mover’ album with the track ‘Guess Who’. Around the same time Olaf completed work on his next single ‘Promised Land’, and with it came a new label relationship with Dutch heavyweight independent High Contrast Records. The track (which featured the vocals of Tiff Lacey and was remixed by Nic Chagall) beat the drum hard for what was to prove Olaf’s renaissance record. In 2008 ‘Chakalaka’ (partnered by the B-side ‘Drumster’) exploded into the clubbing consciousness, thanks in no small part to major 3 month-long floor and radio hammering from Tiësto and Armin Van Buuren. As was always Olaf’s desire the tracks started to chip away at the stylistic borders of dance and came to enjoy heavy deck support from Angello & Ingrosso, Eric Prydz, Eric Morillo and Dirty South, amongst a multitude of others. The track maintained a grip on the No.1 chart position on Beatport for an incredible 12 weeks. Late that year and branching further out still, Olaf launched a new nom-de-plume Sphaera. The tracks ‘Front & ‘Back’ were released on Tiësto’s Black Hole Records to, once again, broad DJ acclaim.

Famously, Olaf carved his name deep into the heart of the mid-90s dancefloor with his very first track - the unforgettable, speaker-assaulting ‘Neurodancer’. Released on Hyper Hype, it became an import smash and was picked up by Hooj Choons off-shoot Prolekult. To this day ‘Neurodancer’ rests as one of the hardest-to-find and most in-demand pieces of dance vinyl in the world - regularly changing hands for many times its original price. No Wippenberg biography would be complete without mention of Dieckmann's remix and spinning work. Behind the decks his characteristic musical tastes and spinning style have started to generate huge demand. It has seen him blaze a trail at 2009’s Trance Energy, rock the German leg of ASOT400 & deliver deck damage at Dance Planet Russia, as well as dozens of other, clubs, festivals and tent-poles events. At the remix end of the mixing desk, Olaf has refashioned tracks for a number of A-List production outfits, including Tiësto, Above & Beyond, Cosmic Gate, Gabriel & Dresden and Super8 & Tab. Most recently his remix of Rank 1’s Trance Energy 2009 anthem ‘L.E.D. There Be Light’ became the focus of many DJs playlists. On the immediate horizon Olaf has just finished new remixes of tracks for Paul Van Dyk & Riva as well as Ingrosso's MGMT ‘Kids’ sampling ‘Laktos’. He’s also set to release the hotter than hot new Wippenberg single… ‘PONG!’

John Dahlback

John Dahlback is further testament to the theory that when it comes to overly talented musical homelands, there could indeed be something in Sweden’s water. Born in 1985 in a small village near Stockholm, he landed his first record deal aged just 15 while most of his peers were just discovering clubs. Now 22, he’s already the proud owner of a label, has a string of well-known productions to his name and a reputation for quietly turning out some of the best house melodies you could hope to hear.

With a family background boasting more music than the Von Trapps it’s no surprise he was instantly hooked – his mum sings in a jazz band, his dad drummed in a prog rock band, and various aunts and uncles played piano, guitar and more, so he was hardly stuck for inspiration or opinions to help him get started. Learning the basics on his dad’s Atari computer he soon established his own style, and his second demo, a jazz-influenced, deep house number called Night Flash, earned him a record deal with Route 33. His next 12”, Music So Sweet, found a home on Deep4Life, but with the releases coming thick and fast John decided to set up his first label with his cousin, Jesper. The pair found acclaim as Hugg & Pepp, and John’s productions established him as a name to be reckoned with. Starting a new label, Pickadoll, for the Plantage 13 label management in 2005, John finally had his own imprint. Proving he had an eye for signing, the label was soon releasing as prolifically as he was, with artists like Özgur Can, Sebastien Leger, Dada Life, Zoo
Brazil, Robbie Rivera, Laidback Luke and Style of Eye putting out tracks through Pickadoll.

“I had a real vision about the label,” says John. “I can hear within a couple of seconds whether a track will fit, and I love doing this kind of organised work – sending out promos and looking for licenses – otherwise I’m just a slave to the studio!” On top of the label and his productions, John holds a residency in Sweden and plays out all over the world. Europe is one of his favourite places, especially France, and a summer in Ibiza has lightened John’s production style from minimal techno influences to his more house-influenced vibe. “It was so good to listen to sun-drenched tunes, the grooves and harmonies just feel stronger to me.“

A new album, Winners And Fools, is out in September 2008, and is described by John as “the one I’m most proud of. I’ve done a lot in the past and there have been some amazing moments. When Blink started to get big in France and I was making the video it was a huge moment, but everytime I do a track now I feel I’m improving. Making Winners And Fools I felt like it didn’t have to sound like anyone expected – it could be exactly what I wanted. I’ve always done quite dark albums in the past and this is really uplifting, with nice summer vibes and good vocal tracks.” His prolific nature continues to rule –  a 5 week tour of France will be followed by work on another album, scheduled for release in summer 2009. For John, his agenda for making and playing music is simple. “I’m quite calm when I DJ, I don’t want to be ‘showy’ - I love to play for dancing people, to really see them loving the tunes. And I love to make the tunes that get them dancing…”

ENDLESS SUMMER : BAD BOY BILL

A Hollywood Theatrical Production

To call Bad Boy Bill accomplished would be a bit of an understatement. Voted America’s Favorite DJ (BPM Magazine). Winner of URB’s Massy Poll. Co-founder of Beatport.com, the leader in electronic dance music downloads. That might be enough success for some, but not for this world-renowned DJ. With over two decades of DJing under his belt, Bad Boy Bill is ready to release his first full-length artist album.

“I think people are going to be surprised because its different than what they probably expect from me,” says Bill. “And I like that.”

Out July 28, Bad Boy Bill The Album (Nettwerk) packs a double punch: the impressive collaborators we anticipate from an industry vet (Duran Duran’s John Taylor; Alyssa Palmer; JJ Flores; Steve Smooth; Alex Peace), combined with unexpected self-aware lyrics and unique production that seamlessly weaves Bill’s electronic edge into rock, hip hop, and rap.

While most of the tracks on The Album have been closely guarded secrets, Bill has previewed lead single “Falling Anthem” extensively, to rave reviews. Number 9 on the Billboard Dance Chart and steadily climbing, the track features vocals by the talented producer and singer Alyssa Palmer, and has already been remixed by Herve, Harry Choo Choo Romero, and Sylvane.

This summer, Bill will surprise longtime fans and attract droves of new ones with his first full-length artist album, introduced by the first single, “Falling Anthem.” The mid-tempo dance track is propelled by a sparse and steady driving beat, but the real focus is on the gorgeous, plaintive vocals from Alyssa Palmer.

Featured on “Do What U Like” as well, Palmer helps set the tone for an upbeat, positive album. “Do What U Like” has all the makings of an instant club hit: funky and futuristic with slick production, racing rhythm, and robotic, commanding vocals.

With “Fast Life” (written on his cell phone via text at 6am in an airport) Bill takes advantage of a perk of recording your own music: lyrical catharsis. “I definitely think it is a fast life we DJs live,” says Bill. “It’s kind of never ending. It’s always another city and club every week. I have been travelling this way for over 12 years, and when I look back, its like ‘Wow, it flew by.’ But being able to do what you love is a gift, when you combine them all, that’s my life and I love it.”

Alex Peace slings staccato lyrics like “nonstop fast life / different city every night / no sleep late night” over jagged and fuzzed electro beats that start and skip at random intervals.

Exercising artistic license, Bill taps into his love for and knowledge of an array of musical genres, from rock n’ roll (“Got That Feeling”) to rap (“Headlock,” “Honey”). He goes back to where it all started with a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit” (“because of the scratching, it really got me into the art of DJing,” Bill says), and gives new life to a ballad by speeding up one of Palmer’s stunning songs (“If I Tell You”).

From start to finish, Bad Boy Bill The Album is everything you would hope for from a genre staple looking to shake things up: adventurous, experimental, fresh, and yet authentic with Bill’s signature electronic edge layered into every track. America’s Favorite DJ may just be America’s New Favorite Artist.

Lazer Tag Tour : 18 and over

The Far East Movement
hailing from the clubs and streets of Los Angeles, are one of the freshest crews representing the next generation of artists and “fly music.” Members Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman have created a huge industry buzz with major companies, radio stations, and club djs worldwide through their international appeal, energetic live shows, and collaborations with top street wear companies.

Hyper Crush

It’s time to go back to the future with the extra-terrestrial trio Hyper Crush, live and direct from Los Angeles' gr8-1-8 area code, gracing us with their presence due to a malfunction with their flux-capacitor. Real genius Donny Fontaine and intergalactic beauty Holly Valentine handle the vocals while the group’s very own Doc Brown, Preston Moronie, mans the boards. The trio have been banging out tracks together since high school and are now ready for domination.

Dev

There’s an image we all have of the small town girl following her dreams and moving to Los Angeles, only to have the City of Angels chew her up and spit her out. This is not the case with Dev. This small town girl has fangs; and she’s come to L.A. on a mission to take it to the top.
A native to Cali’s central valley who now resides in Los Angeles, Dev’s music is no nostalgia trip. This is the sound of right now; from the streets to the club to the bedroom, Dev’s music is a fun, sexy mishmash of pop, R&B;, dance and hip-hop, all delivered with a distinctive, unique voice.
That voice belongs to a self-described outsider. “I love Los Angeles, but I’m not really part of any scene,” says Dev. Living in a city full of followers and going your own way might seem paradoxical, but that’s what Dev is all about. She’s a small town girl with a big city attitude. In her lyrics you’ll hear someone who is cocky, deviant, sarcastic and at the same time, incredibly sweet and honest. Along with collaborators The Cataracs (who are also artists, themselves), who discovered Dev and nurtured her talent, she has carved her own sound by creating her own world. That happens with both sound and vision. “Visuals are almost as important as music for me,” says Dev. She continues, “Growing up, that was always my favorite thing about my favorite artists.” When watching the hypnotic video for “Booty Bounce” you get the impression that you are watching the next great pop star blossom right before your eyes, even if you can barely keep your eyes on her; with the hyper-speed cuts and countless costume changes giving you a thousand versions of the same artist.

The Cataracs

Barely old enough to drink legally, The Cataracs have developed a sound truly their own. A group, as well as a production duo, their music touches on elements of pop, r&b;, hip hop, rock, and dance music, with only one thing remaining constant...the unique personalities which make up The Cataracs. After becoming local celebrities in San Francisco thanks to their infamous Technohop Dance Parties, the Cata boys have continued to cultivate a worldwide following transcending cultural and racial boundaries, though always remaining true to their core fanbase...teenage girls. In the past year, The Cataracs have rocked clubs around the world with their high energy dance set, signed a record deal with Universal Republic, and produced records for some of the biggest artists in popular music. Expect great things from these young future superstars.

DARUDE

Darude has become a name synonymous with driving beats coupled with passionate and energetic DJ sets which can be summed up in one word, PARTY!

Darude's (Finnish DJ/artist/producer Ville Virtanen) grand entrance into the music industry came in 1999, when he slipped a demo CD to one of his idols, acclaimed Finnish dance producer, Jaakko Salovaara. Jaakko immediately snatched up Darude and signed him to his own label, 16 Inch Records. The two hit the studio together to put the final touches on the demo Darude had handed to Jaakko. The result of this studio time would be a track that would eventually spread to every corner of the world; that track was Sandstorm¯.

Once Sandstorm was out, it took the world by storm. It started in Darudes home country, Finland, where it went directly to #1 on the Finnish Dance Chart; a spot that it would dominate for 17 weeks. Its next stop would be the UK, where Neo Records would snap up the track after coming across it on the internet. In June 2000, Darude became the first Finnish artist ever to reach the top 3 positions on the UK singles chart.

Sandstorm¯ went on to sell Platinum in Scandinavia & Ireland and Gold in the UK & Germany which led to it being the worlds best selling 12¯ vinyl of 2000. The world-wide sales of Sandstorm¯ to date is about 1,5 - 2 million units. The second single Feel The Beat¯ went immediately to #1 on the Finnish Dance Chart, the UK Club Chart, Mixology Dance Chart, UK and the Australian Dance Chart. Altogether is conquered the Top 3 in ten countries around the world.

The success of these two singles led to the release of Darudes debut album, Before The Storm.¯ This album would go on to sell double Platinum in Finland and Gold in Canada. Its world-wide sales to date are between 600 000 - 800 000 units.

His DJ style is a mix of progressive & uplifting trance, but hes not too shy to throw in some tech, breaks and house flavor with even the occasional heavy metal samples. His goal is to get arms waving, feet moving and hips shaking! He quickly obtained remarkable success as a DJ. After only one year of official DJing, he was voted by his fans onto such renowned charts as The DJ Mag's Top 100 of 2004 & BPM Magazines Americas Favorite DJ list 2004, 2005 & 2006 (trance/commercial DJ) and in addition he gained a solid spot on The DJ List.com chart.

DJing has led Darude to radio, for which he now hosts a widely followed mixshow, Salmiakki Sessions on ETN.fm. In addition, Darude has done several guest mixes for other top radio programs, including Above & Beyonds Trance Around the World¯ on Ministry of Sound UK.

Interest in Darude is at an all-time high, which can be seen in his ever increasing website hits each month, his solid presence on Myspace, the gig requests that keep pouring in and his invitations to take part in industry leading conferences, such as the Billboard Dance Music Summit, Amsterdam Dance Event and WMC in Miami.

Darude has solidified himself as a DJ for the people which has given him an ever expanding fan base that follow him on each new venture in his career. Stick around to see what Darude has in store for the world next!
